The middle coverage rating is called a Consider. By giving a script a recommend, the script reader who is providing the coverage is basically saying to the development executive above him: "I recommend that you read this screenplay." A recommend is also a very rare rating, because as you might imagine, good scripts are pretty hard to find in Hollywood. Recommend is the highest rating you can receive on a coverage. Script coverages generally contain one of three overall ratings, which are used throughout the film industry. The readers read the scripts, and provide these coverages, and then the executives read the 2-4 page coverages (sometimes longer) instead of having to read the 100+ page screenplays. Those script comments are generally the script reader's opinion of the script, with regards to the criteria of plot, setting, character, dialogue, theme, pacing, believability, and sometimes budget / demographics.Ĭoverage is provided by script readers generally for agents, producers, or studio executives who don't have time to read through the dozens of scripts they're sent. Script coverage is generally a one to two page synopsis of the script's plot, along with a one to two page set of comments.
